The logger is a prototype built on a rather small budget, so it still has a number of issues. We try our best to help and to fix problems, but please be patient with us.

Can I use the logger in the rain?

We have experienced the power bank shutting itself down when it gets too wet. After drying up it works again (so far). In the future We will waterproof it a bit. Similarly, the button that you mark overtakes with is not very waterproof. You can try to protect it with a plastic bag or similar. When wet it may fail, but it should work again after drying up.

The current advice is: Do not bring the logger when you know it will be pouring, but if there's some rain, feel free to try. If the logger shuts down, please let it dry (you may unscrew the screws and carefully open the lid) and then try again.

If it doesn't work anymore even after having dried up, please get in touch.

GPS problems

It can take a while for the GPS receiver to find satellites. Try to guarantee a good view of the sky and avoid being close to tall buildings when starting.

The GPS receiver tries to find satellites all the time, so there is no need to restart the logger if you lose GPS signal along the route.

The GPS receiver has more trouble finding a signal when moving, so if you have the possibility, give it a few minutes while standing still.

If you think the GPS receiver is too far underneath your body while riding, you might try to attach the logger such that it is farther behind the seat. You might want to secure it with a zip-tie or similar around the radar, such that you don't have to tighten the screw too much, and to prevent it from sliding downwards. Just make sure you don't accidentally cover the lidar.

I have an own Garmin Varia

If you have a Varia 315 (no camera, no light) the logger should find it. Just make sure you turn it on before you turn on the logger.

If you have a Varia in the 500, 700 or higher series, it has to be paired following a special protocol. Currently we can only do that on location, so these Varias won't work with the logger. However, you can either connect your bike computer to the 315 you get from us, or you can run both Varias in parallel. Ours will then "talk with" the logger and yours with your bike computer.

Radars of other brands do not work with the logger.

Upload problems

Both your hotspot and the password must be set to bicycledata. This is important. On an iPhone, to set the name of the hotspot you have to change the name of the phone.

Upon start, it is important that the hotspot is turned on BEFORE you turn on the logger. Similarly, for uploading in the end of a ride it is important that the hotspot is on BEFORE you press the upload button.

You can see that the logger is connected to wifi when (a) the wifi LED is on (solid) and (b) you see on your phone that a device is connected.

Instead of using the phone, you can also change the name and password of your home network, but we do not ask for such a level of dedication.

If everything fails, please get in touch, we'll try to help. The log data will be stored on the logger if you followed the other steps (turning on the radar before turning on the logger, GPS found satellites).

Charging related issues

If the LEDs do not illuminate, either when you want to start the logger or during/after a ride, the powerbank might be flat. The banks we use are stable and keep their charge well, but it has happened that they have discharged. If you want to be certain, you can extract the powerbank. Either, you remove the pin and carefully push the battery out, or you unscrew the six screws holding the logger together and take off the battery holder. If you press the little button on top of the bank, a display will show the charging level. It takes several hours for a full charge from zero. As we waterproofed the powerbank, sealing the USB-C port, the only way to charge it is to plug the cable into a USB-C-socket.
